Updates & backups
Everything you've built lives on the board. Keep a backup, and update without a USB cable.
What it’s for
Section titled “What it’s for”The Firmware page is seven sections that open and close from their headers. Closed, a header still says what matters: the running version and free memory, when this browser last downloaded a backup (in orange if it never has), and the progress of an upload, restore or restart.
Quick start: back up
Section titled “Quick start: back up”- Open Backup & Restore. Tick Include WiFi password if you want your home WiFi’s password in the file too.
- Download Backup: one file with every setting, light preset, sequence, shape and track label.
Updating over WiFi
Section titled “Updating over WiFi”| Section | What it does |
|---|---|
| Firmware Update | Upload a new firmware.bin. The board restarts when it finishes. |
| Web UI Update | Writes only the web page’s files: index.html.gz, app.js.gz, style.css.gz and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt.gz. Your settings, presets and sequences are untouched, and no restart is needed. The safe option for web page changes. |
| Advanced: filesystem image | The advanced path: a whole filesystem image. Leave Preserve presets & sequences ticked unless you really want a factory image. |
Get the files from Downloads. A restart or update logs everyone out.
Restore and reset
Section titled “Restore and reset”- Restore Backup replaces your settings with the backup’s. Every part is checked before anything is changed. The web UI password is never in a backup, so restoring never changes it.
- Factory Reset, under System Control, clears every saved setting, preset and sequence. The web page stays, so the board still serves it afterwards, and the setup wizard starts again.
Under the hood
Section titled “Under the hood”Where your settings live for the curious
Settings are stored in the board’s flash, and after every save the complete set is also mirrored to a config.json file on the board. If an update changes how a setting is stored, the board notices it can’t read the old copy and restores that part from the mirror on the next start-up. Light presets, sequences, shapes and the track list with your labels are separate files, and all of them are in the backup.
Trouble?
Section titled “Trouble?”- A setting reset itself after an update: restart once; if it’s still wrong, restore your backup. See Troubleshooting.
- Licences: Licenses & Credits lists the third-party components; the full texts are on Third-party notices.
