Install DroidFX

Plug the board into a computer, press Install, and this page puts DroidFX on it. No software to install, and nothing to build.

The first public release isn't out yet. This button installs it as soon as it is.
  • The Freenove ESP32-S3 DEV board (What you need).
  • A USB cable that carries data, not just power. If the board never appears, the cable is the usual suspect.
  • Chrome or Edge on a Windows, Mac, Linux or ChromeOS computer. They can talk to the board over USB; other browsers, phones and tablets can’t.
  1. Plug the board into the computer. If it has two USB ports, either works; if it doesn’t show up, try the other one.
  2. Press Install DroidFX above, and pick the board’s port from the list the browser shows.
  3. Choose Install DroidFX. For a first install, say yes to erase the device.
  4. Wait while it writes, a couple of minutes. Don’t unplug the board until it says it’s done.
  5. Unplug it, wire it into your droid, and carry on with Getting started.

If you’d rather use Espressif’s esptool, download the five files under Installing by hand on Downloads (with the firmware and filesystem image), then:

Terminal window
esptool.py --chip esp32s3 erase_flash
esptool.py --chip esp32s3 write_flash \
0x0 bootloader.bin \
0x8000 partitions.bin \
0xe000 boot_app0.bin \
0x10000 droidfx-VERSION-firmware.bin \
0x670000 droidfx-VERSION-littlefs.bin
File Offset
bootloader.bin 0x0
partitions.bin 0x8000
boot_app0.bin 0xe000
droidfx-VERSION-firmware.bin 0x10000
droidfx-VERSION-littlefs.bin 0x670000

The installer is part of this site and runs in your browser: the files come from this site, and nothing about your board or computer is sent anywhere. It’s ESP Web Tools, by the ESPHome project.
